The Wakefield High School Marching Band, led by Director of Performing/Visual Arts Tom Bankert — and supported by their friends and family — ran a hugely successful  food drive for guests on Saturday, September 14.

This amazing crew pictured transported, sorted, and stored 8,544 highly nutritious food items for the guests we serve at the Wakefield Food Pantry as part of the Wakefield Music Boosters’ food drive Saturday, September 14.

“Wakefield is the place we call home, which means we’re all called to contribute to the well-being of our entire community,” said Bankert about last year’s food drive. “It’s our sincere pleasure to do our part for the food pantry’s clients.”

One in eleven households experience food insecurity in Eastern Massachusetts. The Wakefield Food Pantry provides food to over 600 households that would otherwise go without or have to make the hard decision of which bill not to pay in order to afford food. Food drives such as this and donations  (for every $1 donated, the Food Pantry can purchase $4 worth of food) allow the pantry to provide this service.

“We are very grateful to the Wakefield High School Marching Band for running such a successful drive for us.” said Maureen Miller, Executive Director of the Wakefield Food Pantry.
