The Wakefield Food Pantry (WFP) was one of several local nonprofit organizations that
received a financial award from The Savings Bank Charitable Foundation. The
foundation, established in 1997 through an initial endowment of $550,000 from The
Savings Bank, presented a total of $65,040 to 20 nonprofit organizations during the 27 th
distribution of funds. Over the past 27 years, the Foundation has made donations in
excess of $950,000 to organizations in local communities.
The award was presented by The Savings Bank Charitable Foundation to
Maureen Miller, Executive Director and Catherine Dhingra, Development Committee,
Wakefield Food Pantry. The Wakefield Food Pantry will use the funds to support its
outreach programs for Kids First, Seniors and Veterans to help alleviate food insecurity
in Wakefield.
According to the foundation, 25 organizations presented applications totaling
more than $133,500. Awards were granted based on a number of factors, including
intended use of the funds by the organization and the organization's status as a publicly
supported charity. Organizations that received an award were located in the areas served
by The Savings Bank, with a focus on those organizations serving the residents of
Wakefield, Lynnfield, Andover, North Reading, and Methuen.
The Savings Bank has eight offices located in the communities of Wakefield,
Lynnfield, Andover, Methuen and North Reading.
