WHAT WE DO

Our volunteers help to meet the food and household needs of over 740 families (about 1500 people) who visit the pantry each year by:

  • Each week, transporting over 5000 pounds of food purchased from the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) to Wakefield. For every dollar spent, we purchase four dollars’ worth of food
  • Shopping at grocery stores when necessary to supplement GBFB items and donations
  • Unloading, sorting and shelving food at the pantry
  • Assisting our guests with their shopping at the pantry

In addition to maintaining the Food Pantry, we provide many other services, including:

  • Running monthly Mobile Markets at various senior citizen residences, including Harts Hill, Crystal View, and the Lincoln School
  • Running the KidsFirst summer program to provide kid-friendly food for families whose children receive free or reduced lunches during the school year
  • Building, maintaining, and stocking Little Free Pantries around town
  • Providing Emergency Food Bins to local organizations that deal with the homeless population
  • Supplying and maintaining a satellite pantry at the Senior Center called the Quick Stop
  • Partner with the Wakefield Public School, supplying a pantry at the Galvin Middle School
  • Supplying families with complete meal fixings at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
  • Supporting other organizations, for example, providing snacks for the Boys and Girls Club of Wakefield, meal ingredients for free community meals, and supplies for the monthly Veterans program
